Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is known that classical and typical methods for noise suppression can successfully suppress stationary noises. However, non-stationary noises such as intermittent and impulsive noises have not been sufficiently suppressed since these methods have not focused on temporal characteristics. This paper aims to investigate a method for suppressing the stationary, intermittent and impulsive noises besed on their modulation spectrum (MS) as temporal characteristics. MS features in the stationary, intermittent and impulsive noises were investigated and these features were removed from the observed signal to suppress these noises. The direct-current component of MS in the stationary noise, harmonicity of MS in the intermittent noise, and higher modulation-frequency components in the impulsive noise were removed. As results, the following advantages were confirmed: (1) sound pressure level of the noise was decreased, (2) signal-to-noise ratio of the noisy speech was improved, and (3) loudness and roughness of the noises was decreased. These results indicated that the non-stationary noises are successfully suppressed using their MS characteristics.
