Robust Sparse Adaptive Algorithm for Non-contact Heartbeat Detection with Doppler Radar

Abstract(in English) The development of non-contact monitoring technique has a great influence on the heartbeat monitoring, such as, for drivers and burned patients. In particular, the heartbeat detection with Doppler radar has drawn extensive attentions. However, since the heartbeat signal contained in received radar signals is quite weak, the detection accuracy obviously deteriorates in the presence of respiration and body motion. In this report, a robust heartbeat detection algorithm is proposed, based on the spectrum reconstruction method termed stochastic gradient. Through correcting the gradient of cost function constructed by recursion error, and utilizing the sparse characteristics of heartbeat spectrum, the weak heartbeat component is extracted by the reconstructed spectrum with minimum deviation. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm realizes more stable sparse spectrum reconstruction (SSR), by quantizing the updating of recursion error. Under the sitting still and typing with a laptop for five subjects, the proposed method is validated to improve the detection accuracies over the conventional method.
