On Fast Computation of RBF Approximate Function by FPGA Implementation

Abstract(in English) Radial basis functions (RBFs) are used for function fitting (approximation) of discrete data in various fields such as machine learning, data mining, machine control and so on, and fast calculation of the obtained approximate function is required. Therefore, in this study, we propose a fast calculation method by FPGA implementation. To implement computation of RBF approximate functions on an FPGA efficiently, this paper presents two techniques: square root calculation by Newton’s method and memory based design method. The effectiveness of the proposed hardware implementation was discussed by comparing it with its software implementation.
