Effects of parasympathetic nerve activity on electrical excitation of atrioventricular node

Abstract(in English) Atrioventricular node (AVN) is the only conduction pathway between atria and ventricles. Sinoatrial node acts as physiological pacemaker in the heart. Electrical excitation conduct from sinoatrial node to ventricles via the AVN. Therefore, the AVN acts as important roles in electrical activities of the heart. In this study, we simulated electrical excitation conduction using 1-dimensional and 3-dimensional models from right atrium to the bundle of His via the AVN. In addition, we investigated effects of acetylcholine released from parasympathetic nerve on electrical activity of the AVN. Our simulation results show acetylcholine slows electrical excitation conduction in the AVN, especially center of the AVN.
