Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Bruxism, unconscious clenching and grinding, is classified into awake bruxism (AB) and sleep bruxism (SB). The number of AB and SB events are positively correlated when patients have awareness of bruxism. We previously demonstrated that biofeedback training which sounded the occurrence of bruxism suppressed both AB and SB. However, the relationship between SB and sleep quality remains unknown. In this study, to reveal the influence of SB on sleep, we analyzed electroencephalographic characteristics during SB events using polysomnography and an electromyographic biofeedback (EMG-BF) training device. As a result, the content of the δ wave significantly decreased after sustained SB occurrence, suggesting that the SB temporarily hinders deep sleep in which the δ wave is dominant and may deteriorate sleep. |
