Neuromorphic Systems using Thin-Film Devices

Abstract(in English) Artificial intelligences are utilized for various applications and indispensable technologies in future societies. However, they are realized as complicated software executed on high-spec hardware, and it is issues that the size is bulky and the power is huge. Neuromorphic systems mimic biological systems from hardware level, and it is expected that the size is compact, the power is little, and the working is robust. On the other hand, thin-film devices can be fabricated on large area with layered structure. We are investigating neuromorphic systems using thin-film devices. In this study, we have succeeded in confirming the basic working of the neuromorphic systems using thin-film devices. These systems are scalable and adoptive, and have possibilities to realize the same functions as those of the conventional artificial intelligences by scaling and layering. In addition, they also have potentials to avoid energy crisis by the low power and realize AI on Everything (AIoE) by the compact size. It is expected that hybrid-type artificial intelligences are installed in autonomous-type robots, which prepare not only the conventional artificial intelligence working with connections to servers and networks but also neuromorphic systems working without them.
