A Novel AFC Scheme for WHCDM Based on Inter-Code Interference Due to Carrier Frequency Offset

Abstract(in English) In helicopter satellite communications, the periodic channel blockage due to rotor blades and time-varying Doppler shift caused by the helicopter maneuvers are important problems to be solved. Code division multiplexing (CDM) employing Walsh-Hadamard code (WHCDM) is suitable for overcoming the periodic blockage. However, in WHCDM systems, the carrier frequency offset due to Doppler shift causes the inter-code interference (ICI), which degrades the bit error rate (BER) performance. WHCDM systems therefore require an accurate automatic frequency control (AFC) scheme. In this report, we propose a novel AFC scheme based on the ICI. The proposed scheme detects the carrier frequency offset using the energy variance of the demultiplexed signal. Results of computer simulation show that the proposed scheme performs well even in the low carrier-to-noise power ratio (CNR) environment where the conventional one fails to track the time-varying carrier frequency offset.
