Abstract(in English) We achieved physical contact (PC) of all the cores of high-density 256-core MPO connectors with a standard 22-N mating force. In our previous work, multi-MCF connectors with 96 or 256 cores have been demonstrated with achieving the insertion losses of < 1 dB by using 125-μm-cladding MCFs and highly precise MT ferrules, and the 96-core MPO connectors achieved the PC of all the cores with a standard mating force of 22 N by a flat polishing method. In this work, we improved the flat polishing method by using a compressive-deformation simulation, and fabricated 256-core MPO connectors which achieved the PC of all the 256 cores, confirmed by the measured return losses of > 40 dB.
