Extraction of Efficient ICA Basis in ICA-DCT Hybrid Typed Image Coding based on Rate-Distortion Sense

Abstract(in English) ICA-DCT hybrid typed image coding method uses both DCT basis and ICA basis which can preserve local features of image. In the conventional method, the spatial domain of an input image is classified into ICA basis region and DCT basis region by comparing the entropies between ICA coefficients and DCT coefficients for any (8x8) block in the input image. Also, the conventional method has restricted the number of ICA basis to encode the ICA basis region, in order to reduce the additional information bits. In this paper, we derive the optimum segmentation for the ICA-DCT hybrid typed image coding method based on the Rate-Distortion sense in each coding rate. Moreover, the priority of ICA basis is obtained by using matching pursuit algorithm which is used to encode the ICA basis region from the Rate-Distortion sense. It is seen in the experimental results that the optimum segmentation is 1.5 [dB] higher than the conventional method, and the restricted ICA basis are correspond to the more important basis in the Rate-Distortion sense.
