Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Although 4K/8K have higher resolution than HDTV, noise is also higher than that of HDTV. Noise is caused by the smaller sizes of photoelectric because small cells receive less photons. In principle, 4K/8K videos have more noise than that of HDTV. Noise reducer (NR) is one way to reduce noise in videos; however, the noise reduction process also reduces high frequency elements as well in the video. The conventional NR employs a recursive temporal filter. Although it is widely used, it generates degradation such as motion areas blur and trailing. One of authors proposed a non-recursive type NR algorithm; however, the proposed NR has not been compared with the conventional one with a quantitative quality test. In this study, a subjective assessment was conducted to prove the ability of proposed NR algorithm. The results show that the proposed NR algorithm is good for resolution-preserving, and noise-reducing.
