Abstract(in English) | MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) is expected to provide a means of communication in natural environments like mountainous areas. Node movements and wireless communication in such environments cannot, however, be described with the 2-dimensional (2D) simulation models commonly used for MANET. Therefore, in this study, we investigate development of a 3D MANET simulation model for mountainous areas. In order to accomplish this, we constructed a prototype model for MANET communication in the Japanese mountainous area Yari-Hotaka. Our model included the 2-ray ground reflection radio wave loss model with the knife-edge model for diffraction loss caused by mountain ridges and attenuation in vegetation. Based on that model, packet delivery ratio, throughput and energy consumption during MANET communication were simulated in two scenarios using ns-3, a network simulator. The results showed that the proposed 3D model could describe the movement of nodes and MANET communication in the mountainous areas. |
