On Modeling of Infection Phenomenon and Evaluation of Countermeasure for IoT Malware Mirai by Agent-Oriented Petri Net PN2

Abstract(in English) In September 2016, an unprecedented massive DDoS attack was launched by IoT devices. This attack was caused by a new type of malware called Mirai. IoT devices are more abundant than PCs, and their security is usually vulnerable.Thus such a DDoS attack tends to become massive and disruptive.Addressing the threat of Mirai is an urgent issue. In this report, since Mirai can produce copies of itself, using agent-oriented Petri net PN2, we constructed a mathematical model representing the infection phenomenon of Mirai. Using the model, we also evaluated the cost-perfomance of the countermeasure such as reboot and a worm Hajime without DDoS attack's function.
