Abstract(in English) To achieve miniaturization and high efficiency of AC adapter for laptop PC, this paper proposes an isolated AC/DC converter with input voltage active-clamp circuits. The essential feature of the active-clamp method is to clamp a worldwide AC input voltage (85 V to 264 V) to a predetermined voltage by using the input active-clamp switch so as to limit the voltage to be applied to the trailing-stage circuit. Thus, this feature not only allows the use of low withstand voltage component at a low cost but also downsizes the smoothing capacitors. This paper presents the advantages and challenges of the active-clamp technique applied to the isolated AC/DC converter.
