[Poster Presentation] Control of ultrasound propagation in cortical bone using time reversal technique

Abstract(in English) Recently, the Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) has been attracting attention for the healing of bone fractures. Ultrasound irradiation from LIPUS can reduce the healing time of bone fractures. However, the ultrasound is not effectively irradiated because the actual sound field inside the body is not well understood. In this study, a time reversal wave technique was used to investigate the effective wave irradiation. A 3D heterogeneous cortical bone model was constructed using the longitudinal wave velocity distribution in a bovine radius. For the time reversal wave simulation, Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method was used. In the first simulation, the wave transmitted from a point simulated bone fracture was observed above the bone surface. In the second simulation, the wave convergence at that point was investigated using time reversal waves.
