Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed the music players that can be operated using electroencephalogram (EEG). In the previous research [Tsuji et al., IEICE, 2017], they measured EEG while the participants were listening to music and while the participants were judging whether they like or dislike the music. As a result, EEG correlated with the music preferences was observed. In the previous research, EEG power was examined as the EEG features. In this study, we focused on the phase synchrony as the EEG features, and we clarified whether the synchrony between the recording electrodes is different dependent on the music preferences. The phase locking value (PLV) was used as the index of phase synchrony. As a result, 1) there were the significant differences of PLV in “like” and “dislike” preferences in the judging period. 2) While in some participants EEG powers were not different between “like” and “dislike” preferences, there were some pairs of electrodes which have the significant differences in PLV. 3) At the preference judging period, the pairs of electrodes which have the significant differences in PLV were seen in all frequency bands of EEG. 4) Among them, in PLV in the θ wave, there was a tendency in which when the participants judged the music as "like” the number of electrode pairs which have the significant difference in PLV decreased. From these results, it is suggested that the phase synchrony would be a better feature than EEG power for you to discriminate the music preferences.
