Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) At present, a wireless sensor network utilizing ICT is being operated in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture with the aim of realizing a safe and secure community. For this network, terminals for elementary school students and sensors buried in the mountains were developed and a relay network of 600 transponders was constructed. Using this network, the location of elementary school students and moisture content of the soil in the mountains is being collected. We would like to apply this system to protect mountain climbers. Many transponders cannot be installed in the mountains, so a few transponders must relay packets from many terminals. However, as the number of terminals increases, packet collisions increase, which in turn causes an increase in packet loss rate. Also, when a packet collision occurs, terminals transmit again, so extra packets are generated. In order to reduce collisions, each terminal should not send packets randomly, but should establish a transmission timing that does not conflict with other terminals. We report how the packet loss rate using the topology of a system to protect climbers changes with this type of protocol.
