Evaluation on Balance Characteristics of MSL Balun with Slitted Ground

Abstract(in English) In recent years, baluns with compact and simple structures have been required owing to the development of communication technology. However, few studies on the planar baluns with these structures have been reported. In this report, a microstrip line balun with slitted ground having a simple and compact features is proposed. The concept of the proposed balun is derived from the coaxial spertopf balun, and operating frequency depends on the length of the defected ground slits. The characteristics of the proposed balun are evaluated by using electromagnetic simulator. As a result, the fractional bandwidth of 50 % over 20 dB common-mode rejection ratio is obtained in the 5 GHz band, and the magnitude of both transmission coefficients is about -3 dB at 5GHz. Moreover, the validity of the proposed balun is indicated by comparison with the measured balance characteristics.
