Constructing Real Human Head Models from MR Images for Nerve Stimulation byTMS

Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been a growing interest in stimulating in the brain tissue non-invasively and locally in the medical treatment and diagnosis. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a scheme to simulate a target in a non-invasive manner. A current is induced below a stimulation coil, in which a pulse is injected through this windings. TMS is used for the diagnosis and treatment. However, there has been reported the subject experienced discomfort/pain to the muscles, throat and jaw of the face in particular stimulating the brain tissue with language function. In this study, the realistic human head model with accurately muscle tissue was constructed for nerve stimulation by TMS. Adjusting thickness and anisotropic of muscles, the realistic human head model closed to reality.
