Accuracy Evaluations of Human Transportation Modes Recognition Using Communication Quality

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we introduce a recognition method using communication quality factors in order to identify the transportation modes without additional sensor devices. In the proposed method, instead of the typical smartphone sensors, we collect mobile throughputs, Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) and cellular base station IDs (Cell IDs) in five general transportation modes (stationary, walking, riding a bicycle, a bus and a train) and train the classifiers by applying SVM (Support Vector Machine), k-Nearest Neighbor (k - NN) and Random Forest (RF). Results conclude that these transportation modes can be identified with high accuracy.
