Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Beta wave and theta wave are related to learning and memory process. In rat hippocampal slices, those rhythms can be reproduced with the application of a cholinergic agonist carbachol. In addition, physiological animal activity is modulated by diurnal rhythm induced by the surrounding environment. In the present study, we investigated the effect of diurnal rhythm on carbachol-induced oscillations using hippocampal slices. As a result, the frequencies of the oscillations were significantly lower at a time zone of night ZT16-19. The GABAA receptor antagonist bicuculline was applied the carbachol-induced beta oscillations in the slices at the other ZT16-19. The results suggest that the diurnal rhythm induces the disinhibition at the dark period, and the disinhibition will decrease the frequency of carbachol-induced oscillation. In results, it is easier for a rat to learn in a dark period.
