Abstract(in English) | A fiber fuse is a phenomenon resulting in the catastrophic destruction of the optical fiber. In the near future the fiber fuse phenomenon will pose a real danger to WDM based optical communication systems. Hole-assisted fiber (HAF) is one of the promising candidates for avoiding the damage caused by a fiber fuse since the Pth in HAF can be much higher than that in conventional SMF. For designing a HAF with high Pth value, the diameter of the melted area after fiber fuse propagation (Dmelted) is a key parameter. We investigated the fiber fuse characteristics of SMFs and DSF. We found a specific relationship between the propagation velocity, the input power and Dmelted. Based on the relationship, we proposed the method for predicting the value of Dmelted of single-mode fibers with different mode-field diameter. |
