SVBRDF Acquisition Using Non-negative Matrix Factorization

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we describe BRDF acquisition method using non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) aiming at fast BRDF measurement. Conventional methods for BRDF acquisition have a problem that it takes time to acquire since the light source and the observation direction have to been changed and sampled each time. In this paper, we focus on the property that the BRDFs are convex sets, and new BRDF can be represented by adding some BRDFs. We propose acquisition method using NMF which expresses the matrix by addition of frequent patterns. In addition, by processing spatially varying BRDFs (SVBRDF), we also make it possible to acquire each reflectance of objects with multiple reflectances at once, and it is expected that the whole processing time can be shortened. By conducting experiments in the simulation, we confirmed that it is possible to acquire SVBRDF at the same time with a small number of measurements.
