Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose feedback-control-free adaptive equalization for optical coherent receivers. The polarization rotation and the carrier phase fluctuation of the received signals are simultaneously compensated for by using dual-polarization pilot tones. Compared with the conventional feedback-control-based scheme, higher stable operation is achieved in our proposed scheme even for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) optical signals impaired with large additive white Gaussian noise, although there are relatively large errors on compensation for the polarization rotation and the carrier phase fluctuation. With our proposed scheme, we numerically evaluate bit-error rate (BER) characteristics of dual-polarization 64QAM optical signals when an optical local oscillator with a spectral linewidth of 100kHz is used. The calculated results suggest that penalty on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) required for BER of 1.5×10^{-2} could be suppressed to be smaller than 3dB in the low SNR region, in which the stable operation of the conventional feedback-control-based scheme cannot be achieved.
