Removing outliers in phase based localization by cumulative residues and cyclic operation

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we consider the problem of removing outliers from phase measurements in phase of arrival (POA) based localization, applied for the landslide monitoring. In landslide monitoring, multiple radio wave transmitters set on the slide, and localize these transmitters, by POAmeasurements at multiple receivers located at the surrounding stable sites. The problem of this approach is that there are unexpected instantaneous outliers caused by animals or birds intruding into monitoring site and blocking some of the Tx-Rx paths, or multipaths from cars passing by the monitoring site. In this paper, we propose a method to remove POA outliers. Our approach adopts so called cumulative residues and cyclic operation. The simulation result shows that the proposed method successfully remove multiple outliers and improves localization accuracy.
