Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Service function chaining (SFC) enables the creation of composite services that consist of an ordered set of SFs which make service more flexible. Although there are several methods to realize SFC, but they cannot incorporate distributed applications into SFC, while keeping the number of flow rules. Distributed applications consist of multiple daemons and those deamons exchange messages more than once, if we try to represent those interactions in one chain become a very cumbersome topology. This is because when the chaining becomes complicated, the number of routes increases, and the route calculation cost and the flow rule increase. We introduce Balloon System to treat distributed applications as one SF. Balloon System configures the daemons of a distributed application in a single VLAN and introduces input and output interfaces to the connection point with the external network of the VLAN. This makes it possible to avoid free communication of daemons and complication of chaining. We implemented a combination of Docker, a container technology and Open vSwitch, which is a virtual switch, and run the distributed application to install SF Instruments in Balloon System. |
