| Abstract(in English) | Vertical size disparities (VSD) in visual field are pooled over a large visual field to contribute to depth-slant perception. We hypothesized that VSDs of two groups of elements superimposed in a region are pooled depending on the luminance of the groups. In the experiment, two groups of random-dot were presented in the same circular region. Different VSDs were introduced to the random-dot groups, and the dot luminance in the groups was varied complementarily. The observers reported the perceived slant from the stimuli. As a result, a systematic transition of the slant perception, depending on the difference between the luminance of the groups, was observed for all participants. This pattern of results supports our hypothesis that VSDs of subgroups are pooled nonlinearly with weights depending on the number and the luminance of elements in the subgroups, for the perception of slant. |
