Abstract(in English) | We examined the effects of people’s impressions toward disabilities on their interactions with people having disabilities. In study I, participants (students: N = 42) completed questionnaires using the SD (semantic differential) method and measuring self-efficacy. The SD method was used to measure impressions toward people with disabilities and the derived affective and evaluative components of attitudes; self-efficacy measurement (embarrassing relationship and self-assertiveness factors) assessed interactions with people having disabilities. Results showed a relationship between the affective component of attitudes and the embarrassing relationship factor; people with positive affect, showed a decreased feeling of disgust. In study II, participants (teachers: N = 60) answered questionnaires using the SD method and measuring teacher-efficacy. Teacher-efficacy measurements (teaching efficacy and personal teaching efficacy factors) investigated teacher-efficacy regarding interactions withchildren in school. Results showed a relationship between the affective component of attitudes and the teaching efficacy factor; teachers with positive affect showed an enhanced sense of teacher efficacy. The results were specifically observed in participants who were teachers of special needs class / schools. Our present results suggest that there is a component of attitudes that affects self-efficacy and teacher-efficacy in interactions with people / children with disabilities. |
