Abstract(in English) | This paper reports an investigation of Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) techniques for a campus network. Today's universities generally comprise some main campuses and many small branches. Thus, campus networks deployed at main campuses have to be extended to branches to accommodate researchers and workers in the branches. In addition to the extension, a campus network and its operators have to respond agilely to varied user requests (i.e., changing port configurations and filtering rules). In order to achieve both requirements, we investigate SD-WAN techniques for an overlay-based campus network extension and automation. As a result of our investigation, this paper shows our campus-wide SD-WAN system, called ASANO system. ASANO system constructs an IP overlay network to connect branches with main campuses using standardized and open source technologies: Dynamic Multipoint VPN, IPsec and Ethernet VPN/VXLAN. Moreover, ASANO system achieves network automation by an orchestrator. Users and operators can configure devices of ASANO system through a web front-end without complicated device configuration processes. In this paper, we describe requirements for campus networks extension, overview and prototype implementation of ASANO system. |
