Abstract(in English) | In this paper, we report on a study on direction estimation method for the PDR (Pedestrian Dead--Reckning) by using the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and PCA (Principal Component Analysis). An attitudeof the mobile terminal varies during walking because a pedestrian walks with it, e.g. in hand, in bag, and so on. Inthis paper, we introduce three coordinate systems which are device and world and pedestrian coordinate systems.We estimate the traveling direction of the terminal by evaluating relative rotations by IMU and PCA. However, theconventional estimator results in an inversion phenomenon of the traveling direction if an expected instantaneoussensor value occurs. In this paper, we propose a new method to improve this problem by referring the past estimates.By walking experiments, we compare the proposed estimator with the conventional one and show that the proposedestimator outperforms the conventional one. |
