Prolonging lifetime of nodes by route reconstruction method using sequence numbers in AODV

Abstract(in English) Multihop communication, in which mobile terminals form a network without the infrastructure, is a promising technique to realize a flexible network.AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) is known as a major routing protocol applied to the multihop communication.However once a route is constructed by AODV, only the nodes in that route are used for communication exhaustively, and they considerably consume their battery compared to the nodes that are not included in that route.This results in ununiform battery consumption between the nodes used for the route and the nodes unused for the route.In this paper, we focus on sequence numbers that are used in the conventional AODV, and propose a simple route-reconstruction method by making use of the sequence numbers.This paper shows that we can prolong the node lifetime by the proposed method.By tuning a threshold level of battery, which controls the beginning time of route reconstruction, we can extend the node lifetime by up to 6.3%.
