Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) White balance (WB) is a process in order to remove unrealistic color casts so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in color images, and is one of important techniques in the field of color image processing. To realize WB effectively, the illuminant color should be accurately estimated from a color image. In this report, we propose the illuminant color estimation method achieved by the pseudo specular reflection detection, and the color adjustment of the color image is realize by the WB based on the estimated illuminant color. In the proposed method, pixels which are brighter than neighborhood and their neighboring pixels are found at first. Then, means of their pixel values are calculated respectively, and the specular reflection is detected approximately as the difference of the means. Finally, the illuminant color is estimated as the specular reflection itself. Through the experiment using various digital color images, it is shown that the proposed method can estimate the illuminant color better than the conventional methods.
