Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we extend our previously reported online probabilistic activation/deactivation control of pico-base stations (BSs) in heterogeneous networks in order to accommodate the case where the overall system bandwidth of pico BSs is divided into multiple frequency blocks and the activation/deactivation control is conducted per-frequency block basis. By deactivating the signal transmission of unnecessary pico-BSs, the inter-cell interference is reduced resulting in an increase in system throughput. In the previously reported activation/deactivation control, activation/deactivation of each pico BS is stochastically adaptively controlled based on observed values of system throughput and activation/deactivation state at each time. By using the proposed frequency block-dependent online probabilistic activation control, the granularity of the activation/deactivation control is enhanced and higher system throughput is obtained. However, the higher granularity in the activation/deactivation control may result in the longer convergence time. To address the problem, we propose a method in which the number of activated frequency blocks is controlled in probabilistic manner in addition to the control in activation probability of each frequency block. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method increases the system throughput after the algorithm converges, while the convergence time is quite comparable to the case where the entire system bandwidth is activated or deactivated simultaneously.
