Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) There have been worldwide attempts to realize an elaborated large-scale brain-inspired computer hardware system. However, these brain-inspired hardware only realize ordinary neuron and neural network models through advanced semiconductor device and circuit technologies; they do not really approach the brain using a non von Neumann or brain architecture. In order to solve current problems in realizing brain-inspired computing systems, this paper proposes a novel “Brainmorphic Computing” paradigm, which is based on recent results from brain science. The hardware based on this framework processes information through physical processes. In addition, for higher-order brain functions such as consciousness and self, complexity and unity (integration) should be embedded simultaneously. Furthermore, embodiment is also important factor for this paradigm. Through this constructive approach with the brainmorphic computing hardware, we aim at deciphering the brain architecture.
