Abstract(in English) Wireless local area network (LAN) systems have recently seen explosive growth as the prevailing smart devices anywhere. Therefore, the number of access points (APs) also increases and are densely deployed so as to afford enough connectively for wireless LAN devices. However, since the frequency resource available for wireless LAN systems is limited, APs have to share their frequency channel with some others that result in more overlapping basic service sets (OBSSs) in such a dense AP environment. As a result, the system throughput degrades due to the interference among OBSSs. In this paper, we propose a distributed smart antenna system (D-SAS) for wireless LAN, which suppresses the interference among OBSSs and improves the system throughput in high-density wireless LAN scenarios. The proposed scheme is designed to reduce the interference from other D-SAS APs. The scheme selects the best antenna set with the maximum signal power received from the station (STA) and adjusts the transmit power at the AP. We also show the prototype of wireless LAN D-SAS AP and demonstrated the system throughput of the proposed scheme with stadium experiment. It was found that the developed D-SAS AP provides twice system throughput larger than the conventional AP with centralized antennas.
