| Abstract(in English) | The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan has formulated a long-term vision for future air traffic systems in 2010. In 2015, the ministry has taken a step further in this direction by commencing the public release of 'Open Data', which is a series of actual trajectory data obtained from the air traffic control radar system. Open Data has created a platform for universities and research institutes to expand their R&D activities in the field of air traffic systems. The data include time histories of longitude, latitude, altitude and aircraft types with assigned virtual call signs of about 470,000 flights. This report provides an insight into the background and outline of the released data. The report also discusses the research activities based on the Open Data. |
