Abstract(in English) | Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) transmission technique using a few-mode fiber (FMF) has been investigated to overcome the theoretical limitation of transmission capacity in a single mode fiber. Recently, the maximum capacity of 115 Tbit/s in 10-mode transmission over 87-km FMF has been reported. In this experiment, 20x20 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signal processing are required in order to compensate for the modal crosstalk (XT) between 10 modes. To reduce the MIMO matrix size, the partial MIMO-based weakly-coupled MDM transmission has been proposed. This technique can mitigate the burden of MIMO processing for high-order FMF transmission. In this paper, firstly, we show the modal XT can be sufficiently suppressed over C+L-band using a weakly-coupled FMF and highly mode-selective multiplexer/de-multiplexer. Then a 10-mode-multiplexed 336-WDM transmission of dual-carrier 12-Gbaud DP (dual polarization)-QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying) signals over 48-km weakly-coupled FMF only using the 2x2 or 4x4 partial MIMOs is demonstrated. In this experiment, we achieve the record fiber capacity of 257-Tbps with the aggregate spectral efficiency of 30.5 bit/s/Hz in single-core fiber transmission. |
