Enhanced Bandwidth of Mushroom Antennas based on Metamaterials and Their Equivalent Circuit Model

Abstract(in English) The bandwidth of low profile antennas using mushroom structures is enhanced by introducing a new configuration including several unit cells along with a microstrip ring placed outside the fringe of the structures. Equivalent circuit models are introduced to follow the numerical simulation results. The circuit parameters are extracted based on the geometrical dimensions. The current distribution along the vias contributing to the radiation gain is investigated by using the circuit model and by comparing with numerical simulations. It is confirmed that the numerical simulation results are well-reproduced by the circuit models.
