Abstract(in English) | Recently, demands for high-speed data transmission in electric wiring in a VLSI system are increasing with the advancement of high performance of semiconductor elements and increaseing capacity of network communication. To increase the capacity of communication, multi-valued data transmission technique such as PAM-4 is used in chip-to-chip wiring. Using the multi-valued data transmission, the Nyquist frequency is decreased, and it is possible to increase the bit rate. However, the requirement of the S/N ratio at the receiving end to realize a desired symbol error rate is increased, and the influences of transmission distortion at the receiving end are increasesd. For this reason, a waveform shaping technique such as an equalizer for removing the distortion at the transmitter/receiver is indispensable. Furthermore, to improve the S/N ratio at the receiver, it is important to adjust the equalizer according to the transmission environment. Therefore, in this study, we propose an evaluation technique of waveform distortion for multi-valued signaling PAM-4. In addition, we show experimental result of real-time adjustment of transmitter equalizer using the proposed evaluation method. |
