Complex permittivity measurement Using a Coaxial Transmission Line and FDTD

Abstract(in English) The coaxial transmission line measurement is the most common technique to measure the complex per- mittivity of granular dielectric materials in wideband. In the technique a coaxial line is filled with a material, and reflection and transmission of electromagnetic waves are measured by a vector network analyser. Determining the complex permittivity of the material requires an analysis of the measured S-parameters. A new analysis method is developed. The method uses FDTD simulations as a forward modelling. The response of a dielectric material modelled in a coaxial line is calculated by the FDTD method with inputing sine waves of different frequencies, and the frequency dependencies of permittivity and conductivity are determined iteratively by updating parameters as the error between the measured and modelled S-parameters is minimised. The report discusses the principle of the method, results obtained for some dielectric materials and considerations for further developments.
