Proposal and Evaluation of Probabilistic Interest Packet Aggregation Method for Content-Centric Networking

Abstract(in English) Recently, CCN (Content-Centric Networking) has been extensively studied by networking researchers as one of promising network architectures to realize information-centric networks. In CCN, for reducing the amount of redundant Interest packet and Data packet transmission, when a CCN router receives multiple Interest packets requesting the identical content, it can aggregate those multiple Interest packets as a single Interest packet. In the literature, it is known that Interest packet aggregation significantly affects the performance of a CCN network. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic Interest packet aggregation called PIPA. We investigate fundamental characteristics of PIPA --- in particular, the relation between the Interest packet aggregation probability of PIPA and the average chunk delivery delay --- through both simulation experiments and mathematical analyses. Our findings include that by appropriately aggregating Interest packets at a CCN router using PIPA, the average chunk delivery delay can be reduced by approximately 15%, compared the case without PIPA.
