Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Semeru Volcano is a stratovolcano in East Java in Indonesia, that iswell known for its regular phreatomagmatic eruptions that occur every 5' to 15' since the 20th Century. This material, with more sporadic pyroclastic flows feed lahars that run down the volcanic slope every year during the rainy season. In almost perfectly straight lahar valleys, localdirection changes can be related to the presence of lava deposit that stops lateral erosion, it can be due to the construction of SABO dams in the valleys, but some brutal 90 degrees changes in the valley direction remain unexplained and the topography suggest the presence of a fault line in the landscape. Using GPR, the author has therefore conducted a survey in the volcanic sediment to attempt an identification of the fault line. Underneath 5 m of sediments below the surface of the valley floor ofthe Lengkong, one can identify strong irregularities that are consistent with fractures in the substratum.
