Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In many Japanese schools for special needs education, students with disabilities use toys for hand exercise. However, it is not easy to develop universal toy, which can suit every level of disability. In this article authors develop universal toy which can be tuned with several parameters so that students with different levels of disabilities in upper limbs can use together. Based on inclusive design approach, authors visited a school for special needs education in Saitama Prefecture to observe classes and interview teachers. Based on the findings in the participant observation authors developed a universal musical toy which recognizes specific hand shapes with a motion sensor, aiming to stimulate users’ sensory integration. Disabled students can play with sounds, moving hands and changing hand shapes. |
