Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, the mouse has attracted attention as an experimental animal for studying retinal neuronal circuits. And it has been shown that the photosensitivity and the temporal filter characteristics of the photoresponse of the ganglion cells in the cone pathway are comparable to those of the primate retina. However, it is not fully understood how spike firing characteristics in response to step light stimulation of these output cells can change depending on the visual environment such as background light. In this study, we investigated by electrophysiological experiments whether spike firing response of mouse retinal ganglion cells can change according to the difference of two background light conditions between mesopic and photopic vision. In the experiments, time-series spike data were recorded from the isolated retina tissue using a planar multielectrode array. The single spike units were separated by the principal component analysis and cluster analysis, and then, were classified into different subtypes based on characteristics of the response to step light stimuli. As a result, in some subtypes, the photoresponse was disappeared by the adaptation from mesopic to photopic vision, but in other cases, a qualitative change in the response characteristics was not observed.
