Characteristics of Vibrating Intrinsic Reverberation Chamber

Abstract(in English) We have built a vibrating intrinsic reverberation chamber (VIRC) that is one of the currently used reverberation chambers, and investigated the characteristics (field uniformity, field distribution). A random electromagnetic field is generated in a VIRC by moving the wall made of flexible conductive fabric to vary the boundary conditions, instead of using mechanical tuners/stirrers. In this paper, we have provided the overview, structure, and the characteristics of the VIRC via measurements. We have verified that the field uniformity of our VIRC meets the proposed limit in IEC 61000-4-21. In addition, we have obtained the tendency for the field distribution in the VIRC to approach Rayleigh distribution in an ideal reverberation chamber with increasing an amplitude variation of the moving wall from the results of goodness-of-fit test for the field distribution. The VIRC will be used for testing electronic equipment with high field strength, creating an uniform illumination of the tested equipment and an isotropic field.
