Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is used for peritumoral mapping of the motor cortex. The typical procedure to estimate the stimulation site is projecting on the brain cortex the position where the maximum magnetic field is generated by the TMS coil. However, this approach is limited owing to the complex brain structures that can shift the hotspot position from the expected. Our work estimates the hotspot with higher precision than common procedure by combining the computed electric field strength distribution during multiple sessions of the peritumoral mapping. The electric field induced by TMS was computed using realistic human head models constructed from magnetic resonance images of patients and coil position/angle obtained by navigated TMS. Finally, the hotspot results were compared to the stimulation site localized via intraoperative direct brain stimulation.
