Classification of Man-Made Objects and Natural Objects in Natural Images based on ICA

Abstract(in English) Classification of man-made objects and natural objects in natural images is essential in image recognition. We computed bases of an independent component analysis (ICA) from both images of man-made objects and those of natural objects. The weights to recover an image from those bases were simultaneously computed. Blocks of pixels of images were classified into man-made objects or natural objects based on kurtosis of these weights. A color image to classified was converted to a gray scale image. The effective methods for gray scale conversion were examined. The performance of the developed algorithm was evaluated by comparing it with those in a previous study. The developed algorithm showed higher F-measures than those of the previous algorithm for all conversion.
