Magneto-optic responses of a bilayered aluminum substituted zinc oxide and magnetic garnet.

Abstract(in English) Aluminum substituted zinc oxide (Al:ZnO) was deposited on a bismuth substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG) films by RF magnetron sputtering method for improving magneto-optic (MO) responses and modulating a MO responses by a voltage. The Al:ZnO/Bi:YIG bilayers were investigated on MO responses for various annealing temperature. A sheet resistance and an optical absorbance around 368nm, which is exciton wavelength of ZnO, of the Al:ZnO was drastically enlarged by annealing over 300 degree C. A degree of MCD of the Al:ZnO/Bi:YIG bilayer was over 10 times bigger than the previous study. It could be because the flatness and density of the ZnO film was improved by RF sputtering method compared with electroless plating that employed in the previous study. The sample annealed at 300 degree C showed highest MDC response. It could be concerned that crystallinity of the Al:ZnO was improved by annealing, and it enhanced MCD. On the other hand, Zn diffusion for the Bi:YIG should be increasing at higher annealing temperature that should deteriorates the MO effect. This positive and negative effect of annealing makes the peak of MCD at 300 degree C. Consequently, Al:ZnO/Bi:YIG/Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) multilayer was fabricated. A voltage was applied between the Al:ZnO and the ITO for estimating an effect of the electric field for the MCD enhancement in ZnO/Bi:YIG system. Small change of the MCD was observed with application of the voltage, and it would be because of an effect of electric field.
