| 抄録(和) | 口頭によるコミュニケーション能力の向上に力点を置く昨今の英語教育において、文法がどのような役割を果たすべきかを考える。まず、「文法」の多義性に触れ、「英文法」における文法用語の分かりづらさを指摘し、次に、最上級形や関係代名詞whatを例にして、平易ではあってもこれまであまり指摘されてこなかった用法に触れ、文法記述の向上の必要性を述べる。一方で、「英文法」は確立しているために、無闇に代案を提示することはかえって混乱を招くことを踏まえ、コミュニケーションに資する英文法の構築を目指すためには、英語学研究者と英語教師との協力が不可欠であることを指摘する。 |
| 抄録(英) | In this paper, the role that the "grammar" should play in the context of English Teaching in Japan is discussed. First, some problems of the grammatical descriptions are pointed out. Then, some (hitherto neglected) uses of the superlative form and the relative pronoun what are revealed. Then the author claims that while attempts to improve grammatical descriptions are necessary, "English (school) grammar" used in Japan has been so firmly established that its abrupt and radical change would pose problems for students and teachers alike. Lastly, the necessity of collaboration of English linguists and English teachers is discussed. |
