Abstract(in English) | $L_0$ gradient minimization is a technique that belongs to edge-preserving image smoothing. The objective function of $L_0$ gradient minimization consists of the quadratic data-fidelity and the $L_0$ gradient, which calculates the number of the non-zero gradients of an image, and various methods which approximately minimize it have been proposed. $L_0$ gradient minimization is a powerful tool as edge-preserving image smoothing, but it has an inherent difficulty. Since the free parameter controlling the degree of flatness does not have a physical meaning, its setting is troublesome. To avoid the troublesome work, we propose a method of edge-preserving image smoothing based on the number of color group constraint in this report. We define the color group as a set of pixels which have same pixel values and neighbor each other. The proposed method is strongly related with $L_0$ gradient minimization. Because, since a value of $L_0$ gradient is zero inside a color group, the number of color groups is linearly in proportion to $L_0$ gradient. The proposed method formulates the number of color groups as the control parameter, and the parameter visually has a physical meaning. Through simulations, results of the proposed method is enough smoothed images with preserved edges, compared with state-of-the-art methods of $L_0$ gradient minimization. |
