Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Rescue operations often need to be done by disaster victims themselves due to delay in arrival of public rescue teams, however, conventional jack-up tools are big, heavy, and need a repetitive task that it would be a physical burden for the victims. Thus, a new jack-up tool for rescue operations which satisfies compact size, light weight, high power output without electricity and repetitive task by the hand is needed. In this study, we applied compact metal hydride actuator using hydrogen absorption alloy to meet the needs. Hydrogen absorption alloys have an ability to store a large amount of hydrogen gas and to release the stored gas by heating. The actuator was designed using 16 g of LaNi5-based hydrogen storage alloy as its power source and a fiber-reinforced rubber bag as its end effector. The prototype actuator jacked up 100 kg mass by heating the alloy using quicklime. The results show the potential of the hydrogen absorption alloy to be a usable power source of a jack at the time of disaster. |
